Who We Are:
PathoQuest is a specialized CRO, a spin-off of Institut Pasteur, whose purpose is to study, research and identify pathogens by High Throughput Sequencing for the Quality Control of pharmaceutical products of biological origin, both in France and abroad. PathoQuest offers innovative biotech companies worldwide a complete expert service from sample receipt to the production of certificates of analysis. Its tests are based on proprietary sample processing protocols, a high-throughput sequencing platform and specialised bioinformatics analysis pipelines. Currently in a scale-up phase, we have about 50 employees in France and the United States.
We are currently looking for our Head of R&D within our Scientifics department.
Your Role:
As the Head of Research & Development, you are the primary scientific resource and technical expert driving innovation and new assay development for our organization. Working closely with our Chief Scientific Officer, your role is to oversee our research and development group and support the commercial application of our proprietary NGS methodologies and platforms as they apply within our industry. You are responsible for the scientific integrity of highly technical work developed by the laboratory, and for ensuring the needs of internal and external stakeholders are met or exceeded.
Scope of Responsibility:
Your primary responsibilities include managing laboratory staff and envisioning and overseeing the timely development of new and innovative NGS service offerings. You will liaise closely with internal and external stakeholders. You will be responsible for the design, development, optimization, and commercial evaluation and introduction of new NGS services. You will be expected to lead by example and work collaboratively to advance the application of NGS in the field of biosafety testing.
Essential Job Functions:
- Function as the lead scientist, technical expert, and subject matter expert (SME) for new and innovative NGS applications
- Evaluate emerging trends in our industry including technical advances with NGS technologies and related bioinformatics – particularly that related to emerging pathogen (e.g., SARS-CoV-2 (Covid19) vaccine development, manufacturing and testing
- Act as scientific consultant for our development and commercial operations teams
- Develop and apply laboratory techniques and skills to design, support and/or drive execution of experiments
- Ensure testing is performed in accordance with applicable SOPs and regulations
- Maintain complete and comprehensive records for assay development, assay application/execution, and study integrity
- Understand and contribute to corporate business needs and strategy
- Write technical reports; prepare, publish and/or present scientific data, abstracts, papers, posters, etc. to advance the reputation and recognition of the organization
- Participate in consortia, conferences, and other forums to promote PathoQuest’s activities
- Play an integral role in process improvement; promote a culture of continuous improvement and act as a champion for initiatives to drive quality improvement
- Provide technical advice and support for internal and external interactions such as client and regulatory audits/inspections, meetings, and teleconferences
- Lead and/or provide support for projects that cross multiple disciplines
- Lead by example, offer scientific coaching and mentoring to other staff members (training and scientific support for ongoing projects)
- Demonstrate consistently good communication and interpersonal skills with employees, management, and other stakeholders. A strong command of English is required.
- Represent the group during internal and external audits, client meetings and communications. Respond to audit observations, complaints and CAPAs
- Ensure the group delivers a high level of client satisfaction and has all the necessary tools to execute each project
- Complete performance reviews fairly and on-time; conduct regular one-on-one discussions with direct reports; interview and hire job candidates
- Provide mentoring, scientific coaching and support other team members
- May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Education (minimum requirements):
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, or a related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience with NGS and new assay design and development in an industrial environment
Experience:
- Broad working knowledge of the field of NGS and experience with relevant molecular biology laboratory practices, techniques, equipment, materials, and mathematical calculations
- Extensive working knowledge and hands-on experience executing and overseeing highly technical projects and/or related studies (e.g., molecular biology, sequencing)
- Proven experience leading and/or supervising staff in a commercial laboratory setting such as a contract research laboratory, with emphasis in a GxP environment
- Advanced understanding and application of design of experiments (DOE)
- Experience with bioinformatics tools and processes for data evaluation
- Strong experience with programming languages (e.g., Perl, Python, R)
Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills that have been demonstrated through presentations/seminars, oversight of highly technical projects, implementation of new services, etc.
- Advanced skills in applicable computer programs
- Ability to collaborate and work independently
- Ability to manage and/or provide support for multiple high-complexity projects concurrently
- Strong molecular biology skills, especially related to NGS
- Highly proficient in use of advanced laboratory techniques, equipment, and materials
- Excellent time management skills
- Broad working knowledge of laboratory policies and assays, as well as corporate goals
- Demonstrate a high degree of leadership
- Effective coaching and training (or supervisory where relevant) skills for complex and highly technical work
- Knowledge/expertise in virology is a plus

Head of Global Marketing

We are currently looking for our Head of Global Marketing based in France or the USA.
Your Role:
Reporting directly to the Chief Commercial Officer, you design and implement a marketing strategy allowing the company to create awareness (with customers, Key Opinion Leaders and partners) to achieve its growth objectives.
Scope of Responsibility:
The Head of Global Marketing is responsible for activities including (but not limited to) the following :
- Budgeting, planning and logistical support of tradeshows and conferences.
- Development and maintenance of pathoquest.com website (supported by IT colleagues and Marketing Agency).
- Develop and introduce tools / marketing materials aimed to support our sales team.
- Work with our partners (including Charles River Laboratories) to plan and execute joint marketing initiatives.
- Measure the impact of marketing actions through the establishment and reporting of KPI’s.
- Supervise competitive intelligence on the strategy, commercial offers and communication put forward by our direct competitors.
- Ensure the management of predominantly marketing projects with the appropriate tools with regard to the situations encountered, in order to challenge and motivate the team.
- Support change and ensure adoption of top-down internal communication/dissemination (market evolution, company strategy, etc.).
- Support the team in its skills development in marketing and customer experience.
- Ensure the most absolute discretion with regard to the business of the Company (including in particular the names and contact details of customers, consultants, suppliers and designers, current or potential, as well as the conditions of sales/purchases, marketing strategies, prices and activities research and development)
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Education (minimum requirements) & Experience:
- University degree in Life Sciences
- Experience in a technical-scientific service provider (CRO/CDMO) is desired.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Mastery of digital, marketing and sales tools
- Mastery of office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, …)
- Fluency in English (oral, written).
- Very good knowledge of the GMP services industry is desired.
- Scientific background in Molecular Biology is desired.
- Have a strategic vision and an excellent understanding of business issues
- Know how to work in project mode and in collaborative mode
